2011-12 Alliance Scholar ― James R. Morrow, Jr.

Morrow James_web

Dr. James R. Morrow, Jr., Regents Professor in the Department of Kinesiology, Health Promotion, and Recreation at the University of North Texas, embodies the characteristics of an Alliance member who is one of the field's "best" scholars in our field who not only conducts excellent research, but does research that matters for the field. Trained as a measurement and evaluation specialist, Morrow has worked tirelessly to provide both practitioners and researchers with assessment instruments that are both reliable and valid. He has authored over 100 publications, co‐authored a classic measurement and evaluation textbook, co‐authored several other texts on physical activity and health, and presented too many presentations to count at the state, region, national, and international level.

Morrow is one of the field's most respected scholars. He has been elected fellow in the American Academy of Kinesiology and Physical Education (AAKPE), the Research Consortium and the American College of Sports Medicine. He has received honor awards from two of the Alliance structures, the Measurement & Evaluation Council and the American Association for Active Lifestyles & Fitness. He has been selected as the McCloy Lecturer and the RQES Lecturer. In addition, he has served as the editor of the Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport as well as serving as the editorial board chair.

There have been many outstanding researchers in the Alliance, there are very few whose lifetime work has served the field so well. Dr. Morrow is a person whose work has "made a difference" and has significantly advanced the field of health, physical education, recreation, and dance.

Morrow will present the Alliance Scholar Lecture at the 2012 convention in Boston, Massachusetts, and is available to make official presentations through the Scholar program, which underwrites the costs to your group.
