Leslie Turner

Coming from Texas, Leslie Turner started his career as a freelance illustrator and cartoonist. In 1937, he started working as an assistant to Roy Crane, the creator of 'Wash Tubbs', whom Turner greatly admired. In 1943, when Crane retired from the strip, Turner took over the daily 'Tubbs', and then the Sunday strip in 1952.

The comic's name changed to 'Captain Easy' in the late 1940s, and Turner got assistance from Walt Scott on the Sunday pages during the 1940s and 1950s. During the 1960s, the Sunday page was done by Mel Graff. Turner continued to draw the strip until 1970. He died in Florida in 1988.
