Davis receives lifetime achievement award from state group

Jack Davis, COVADD. Jack Davis, left, a longtime professor of art and founding dean of the College of Visual Arts and Design, received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Center for the Advancement and Study of Early Texas Art.

Davis joined UNT in 1971. He has served as chair of the Department of Art, associate vice president for academic affairs, vice provost and was founding dean of the School of Visual Arts (now the College of Visual Arts and Design.)

He is professor of art and director of the university's North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts.

Davis is a life member and Distinguished Fellow of the National Art Education Association, which includes art teachers and representatives from museums, government, arts councils and colleges and universities. In 2005, the group named him National Art Educator of the Year.
