TMS Launches Integrating Materials and Manufacturing Innovation Website
Accelerating the discovery and deployment of materials systems. . .
TMS
Posted on: 7/18/2011 12:00:00 AM... Saving significant time and money through effective integration of the array of materials science and engineering tools engaged in producing materials for the next generation of manufacturing industries is the focus of a new website launched by TMS—Integrating Materials and Manufacturing Innovation—at materialsinnovation.tms.org.

The organizing principle for the new website is the emerging discipline of integrated computational materials science (ICME). ICME combines cutting edge modeling, computing, and information technologies with advances in experimental tools to accelerate materials discovery and deployment. Specific resources now being offered through the website include:
  • Materials Cyberinfrastructure Portal: An online reference desk providing access to materials databases, repositories of computational tools and experiments, and collaborative online environments for user interactions.
  • Meetings and Events: News and links on conferences, symposia, and other relevant educational opportunities.
  • ICME@TMS Digital Resource Center: An online forum for researchers and designers to share software, materials information, and other tools.
  • News and Updates on Important Initiatives: The site currently features a section on the Materials Genome Initiative, announced by President Barack Obama on June 24, 2011. Ongoing development of the site is intended to make it a destination for information on new and evolving efforts supporting advancement of ICME, as well as other materials and manufacturing innovation concepts.
Future plans for Integrating Materials and Manufacturing Innovation include an online library of relevant publications and a gateway to volunteer and professional development opportunities.
