Research Projects

Each of the cluster's participants have active research efforts that can be summarized as follows:

College of Engineering:

Building a large multilingual semantic network for text processing applications; semantic interpretation with monolingual and cross-lingual evidence; mapping historical texts by combining text-mining & geo-visualization; word sense and multilingual subjectivity analysis.

College of Information:

Building open source digital repository and virtual research environments to support research data management; automatic translation of metadata to improve cross language information access; metadata interoperability.

UNT Libraries:

Working with a 16 terabyte web archive to understand and visualize connections between government agencies using link analysis and other tools; classifying web archive content by broad topical areas for collection building; identifying metrics for web archives to enable characterization of materials; exploring the submission, dissemination, and transfer of data for a distributed preservation model for small and large digital archives. The UNT Digital Library is home to materials from the University’s research, creative and scholarly activities; it showcases content from the UNT Libraries collections. Materials include theses, dissertations, artwork, performances, musical scores, journals, government documents, rare books, and historical posters.

Partnerships

Established partnerships include federal and state agencies such as the National Archives and Records Administration (3 years), the Texas Secretary of State’s Office (10 years), and the US Government Printing Office (13 years), to capture and preserve official state and federal publications and provide continuing public access to them.  The UNT Libraries is a founding member of the National Digital Stewardship Alliance (NDSA) and an elected member of the Steering Committee of the International Internet Preservation Consortium (IIPC).
