Denis Conrady passes on Monday, June 13th, 2011


Denis Conrady, long-time faculty member in the Computer Science Department (1974-1995), died Monday evening after a long illness.

Dr. Conrady's former students were asked to send stories about him to the department. Click here to see a summary of those stories that were sent to us.

Dr. Barrett Bryant named new Computer Science and Engineering Chair


The Dean of the College of Engineering, Costas Tsatsoulis, has announced that Dr. Barrett Bryant, Professor of Computer and Information Sciences at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, will be the next Chair of our Computer Science and Engineering Department. Dr. Bryant will join us on August 1, 2011.

Dr. Bryant received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Northwestern University in 1983. He served as Associate Chair at UAB since 1996, and has been the undergraduate program director since 1998.

He was an ACM Distinguished Lecturer twice, has received two University-wide teaching awards, and was nominated for three Dean's teaching awards. He has advised 14 Ph.D. and 36 MS students, has published over 130 refereed articles in books, journals, and conferences, and has been PI or co-PI on research grants totaling over $9.3 million.

Robocamp Registration for Summer 2011 now open


Students 14 years or older will have the opportunity to participate in fun robotics and game programming activities -- as well as learn more about engineering -- at the UNT Department of Computer Science and Engineering's summer Robocamp and Xbox Camp. There is no cost for these week-long camps. Register at http://capstone.cse.unt.edu/robocamp/.

CSE Students present senior design research projects at Design Day

Students in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering will present their research projects at the UNT College of Engineering’s Design Day on Friday, Apri 29. The program will begin in the Auditorium, B155, at 9 a.m. with a welcome address. Poster presentations will be made in the Discovery Park Foyer from 9:30 to 11 a.m.

Five groups of Computer Engineering students will present their senior design projects in the Auditorium, B155, beginning at 11:30 a.m. Two groups of Information Technology students will present their projects in the CSE Conference Room, F223, at 11:30 a.m. Everyone is invited to attend.

Dr. Armin R. Mikler receives ‘Fessor Graham Award


Dr. Armin R. Mikler, associate professor, received the ‘Fessor Graham Award at the UNT Honors Day Convocation on April 8, 2011. This award is the highest honor bestowed by the student body at UNT. This marks the first time a faculty member in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering has received this prestigious award.

The Council of Engineering Organizations is hosting its annual celebration of National Engineers Week February 21-25 to promote and educate others about the field of engineering as a profession.
