Fred Cobb was the coach of the legendary North Texas golf teams that won four consecutive national championships.

Cobb was an all-American golfer at North Texas as well as at Texas Tech, and also played football and baseball. Following his collegiate career, he was named head golf coach in 1946. He saw his efforts pay off just two years later when the Eagles went undefeated and untied in 11 matches and won three tournaments. In 1949, the golf team won the first of its four NCAA titles, capturing the national championship in 1950, 1951 and 1952.

Under Cobb, the Eagles won 72 matches with just 10 losses and three ties.
