David Clark holds the distinction of being the first North Texas athlete to participate in the Olympics, competing in the pole vault in the 1960 Games in Rome.

He earned four letters in track at North Texas, was named all-Missouri Valley Conference three times and All-America in 1960. As a senior, he became just the sixth vaulter in history to reach the 15-foot mark.
