Ted Wright was North Texas' first All-American and first to play in the National Football League.

After attending and playing high-school football at Sherman High in north Texas, Wright played quarterback at then-named North Texas State Teachers College. In 1932, he earned All-America honors and was named by legendary sportswriter Grantland Rice on his "Forgotten Men" team, players from smaller, lesser-known schools but who were "of the highest calibre." North Texas won eight-straight games that year

After college, he was signed by the NFL's Boston Redskins, where he played as a running back for two seasons. He later played for the NFL's Brooklyn Dodgers.
