Brad Kassell anchored a North Texas defense that is widely credited with starting the Mean Green's run of four straight Sun Belt Conference titles and New Orleans Bowl bids.

He was the third all-time leading tackler in North Texas history with 365. He was a three-time all-conference selection and the 2001 Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year, becoming only the third player in school history to earn a Defensive Player of the Year award at that time.

In 2001, he had 12 tackles for loss to lead North Texas. He led North Texas in tackles in 1999 (112) and 2000 (115). Kassell had four interceptions in 2000 to tie for the team lead on his way to a unanimous first team All-Big West Conference pick. As a sophomore, Kassell led the Big West Conference in tackles for loss with 17 and was a second-team All-Big West Conference pick.

After his collegiate career, Kassell enjoyed a successful career in the NFL.
