COLLEGE STATION, Texas — The Mean Green tennis team wrapped up day two of the ITA Texas Regional with a pair of North Texas women making the round of 16 in the singles consolation bracket.
 
Junior Nidhi Surapaneni and freshman Kexuan Zhou battled their ways into the Round of 16. Surapaneni did so in straight sets with a 6-1, 6-0 win while Zhou grinded her way to a 604, 6-7(1), 10/4 victory. Both will play again Saturday morning.
 
In the doubles main draw, the two Mean Green doubles teams that advanced on Friday were pinned against top seeded teams and competed well but eventually fell.
 
Maria Ponomareva and Surapaneni faced a Rice team seeded No. 9 in the draw and lost 8-5. Senior Alexandra Heczey and freshman Hala Khaled Badwy went up against No. 5 seed team from Texas and lost 8-3.
