NORMAN, Okla. - On the road against the defending national champion Sooners, North Texas found itself in in a pitcher's duel, but could not generate the offense it needed to pull off the upset of 17th-ranked Oklahoma as it fell late, 3-0.

Junior Madison Thompson was given her ninth start of the season and did not disappoint. Facing the fifth-best offense in the nation, the Oklahoma native held OU scoreless through the first four innings before yielding a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth.

"Our goal in today's game was to shorten the game," head coach Tracey Kee said. "I knew if we could run Madison out there early and put some zeroes on the board, that would give us a shot. To go up against the fifth-ranked offense and get 15 outs, that was just a great job on her part."

She allowed one more home run in the bottom of the sixth that pushed the Sooner lead to 3-0.

On the offensive side, the Mean Green struggled, tallying its lone hit in the top of the seventh inning off of a Spencer Ferrell lead-off single.

That would be all the Mean Green could muster as it fell in the defensive struggle to OU.

Sophomore catcher Bryana Wade entered the game late and threw out her 21st base runner of the season, which puts her two away from the North Texas single-season record.

"This type of the game is the type of game this program needs to be playing late in our season," coach Kee continued. "I liked our energy, pitching and defensive play. I think we will be ready to play on Saturday."

North Texas heads to Miami over the weekend for a Conference USA three-game swing with FIU. The first game will be at 3 p.m. CST on Saturday.
