For twenty years, the UNTHSC School of Public Health has been full-filling its missions statement and remaining true to its vision statement by seeking to be the team of choice for public health education, discovery, and science while creating solutions for a healthier community by advancing public health knowledge through research, service and the education of current and future public health professionals.

Our Programs

Master of Public Health

Pursue the Master of Public Health degree as an on-campus or online student. UNTHSC School of Public Health offers the Master of Public Health degree as both an on-campus or online program. The MPH cohort program is a 2-year, full-time, cohort style program that allows students to select one of four areas of concentration. Those areas of concentration are:

  • Biostatistics
  • Epidemiology
  • Maternal & Child Health
  • Public Health Leadership

  • The MPH Online program is a 100% online flexible program. With five different starting times, this program is designed with the working professional in mind. Applicants may choose to apply for either the 48 or 42 semester credit hour option.
  • The MPH Online 48-hour option is best for recent graduates. Engage with a range of public health competencies, including community health and health policy management.
  • The MPH Online 42-hour option is designed for those with at least 3 years of work experience in public health or medical professions or applicants that already hold an advanced degree or are enrolled in a dual graduate program. Gain a strong foundation in public health core competencies as well as a focus in health management and policy.
  • Master of Health Administration

    Become a leader who affects meaningful change to impact our health systems and outcomes. Pursue the Master of Health Administration program here at the UNTHSC School of Public Health.     Master of Science in Public Health Sciences

    Are you seeking to begin a meaningful career of inquiries, analysis, and research? Are you ready to dive into the scholarly research or higher academics? Pursue the Master of Science in Public Health Sciences here at the UNTHSC School of Public Health and select from two areas of concentrations including, Health Behavior Research or Epidemiology.     Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) in Public Health Sciences

    Research has the potential to change minds and the world, but it requires individuals with the right skills to bring it to realization. The Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) in Public Health Sciences prepares students for a future in research or academics. Students will select from one of two areas of concentration to focus on during their studies as a PhD student here at the UNTHSC School of Public Health. Students will select either Epidemiology or Health Behavior Research as their area of concentration.     Graduate Certificate

    Advance your knowledge in public health through our Graduate Certificate program here at the UNTHSC School of Public Health. The Graduate Certificate consists of 15-credit hours. Upon completion of the certificate, students earning a grade of B or better in each course may apply all hours to their MPH degree. Learn more by visiting our Graduate Certificate Page.

    Dual Degrees

    The UNT Health Science Center School of Public Health offers various dual degree programs. UNTHSC partners with the UNT Denton campus for our MPH/MS Anthropology degree. Students to this degree must apply and be admitted by each campus and program.

    The School of Public Health partners with other HSC divisions for the DO/MPH and PA/MPH options. Students in these programs must first be admitted to the DO or PA program and may then apply to add the MPH to their course of study. Students take advantage of the MPH online delivery to allow for course completion during their regular course of study.

    Departments

    Health Behavior and Health Systems

    Consisting of 12 full-time and 15 affiliated faculty, Department of Health Behavior & Health Systems is one of two departments in the UNTHSC School of Public Health. The goal of the HBHS department is to help communities and health systems improve policy, management, and public health practice. Graduates of our MPH, MHA, MS and PhD programs assume positions in healthcare, business, human services, research, and academic settings. Our faculty are widely recognized for their innovative teaching and impactful research. Their work has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, Centers for Disease Control, National Science Foundation, and many other national, state and local agencies. Faculty are widely published in the areas of patient safety, disease control, health disparities and underserved populations, women's and children's health, participatory research, substance abuse prevention, and online/m-health interventions. HBHS faculty have received national and international awards for their work bridging teaching, research and practice.

    Biostatistics and Epidemiology

    The Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology strives to become a model for innovative research, educational excellence, and high impact public health practice that positively affects health issues locally, nationally, and globally. Our goal is to provide a collegial interdisciplinary learning environment that produces strong researchers and public health practitioners who use biostatistics, epidemiology, and environmental health theories, principles, and methods to significantly improve health at the population level. Graduates from our masters and doctoral programs have found employment in academia, public health departments, research organizations, and industry. The faculty in the Department have diverse expertise in areas such as healthy aging, cancer, quasi-experimental trial methodology, surveillance, vaccination programming, disaster preparedness, zoonosis, vector-borne diseases, and air pollution, as well as in the development of novel statistical methods applied to clinical trials, neuroimaging, survey sampling, genetics, and environmental monitoring. Their efforts have led to numerous high impact publications and external funding from the National Institutes of Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Department of Justice, and the city of Fort Worth.
