Career Connect projects give students and faculty the opportunity to enhance applicable learning and experiences while also working to get credentialed in four marketable skills: teamwork, critical thinking, written communication, and oral communication. Faculty who offer or are interested in offering experiential learning activities can partner with Career Connect to provide their students with the opportunity to earn a microcredential towards one or all of the fours skills.
To offer assignments that allow students to earn microcredentials faculty need to include the following:
- Integrate students’ ePortfolio use into a student experience
- Require students to develop a product or activity that can be observed, rated, and reflected upon
- Require students to reflect on their learning activity and product by providing answers to Career Connect reflection prompts
- Integrate student learning in one or more of the following skills: written communication, oral communication, teamwork, or critical thinking
- Develop an assignment or program that involves real-life experiences (experiential learning) and may include a community partnership benefiting both students and the community partner
By accumulating badges throughout their time at UNT, students can gain a credential that could appear on a proposed digital transcript. This credential achievement would have a direct link to the classes and/or activities that contributed to earning the credential.

Earning a Microcredential
UNT faculty and staff members can assess one or more of the four Career Connect skills using rubrics developed by Career Connect (see rubrics). As students complete the activity, the work they submit is rated on one or more of the four skills by the faculty. If it receives a rating of 3 or higher, the assignment is badged thus providing a micocredential in the skill rated.
Career Connect will work with faculty and staff to identify and collect appropriate evidence which will be used to complete the rubric and ultimately assess the targeted skill(s).
