DeLong became head coach of the Mean Green in 2019 and led the team to it's most successful season in history. Named the Conference USA Coach of the Year, DeLong led the team to its first regular season championship. North Texas landed four players on All-Conference teams, tying a program record.

Beginning his career as a head coach in 2014, DeLong led the Austin Peay Governors in 2018 to a 39-19 record, the best conference finish in program history and a second-round appearance in the National Invitation Softball Championship.

Previously, he was an assistant coach at Georgia Tech and a head coach at his alma mater, Cameron University, where he led the Aggies to consecutive NCAA Division II Softball Tournament appearances for the first time in program history.

In three seasons at Cameron, DeLong amassed a record of 105-60 and saw 18 Aggie student-athletes earn all-conference honors, nine named to All-Region teams and two selected as All-Americans.

DeLong earned a name as one of the top prep softball coaches in Oklahoma after winning four regional championships and five district championships between Cache (2008-13) and MacArthur (2011) High Schools.

A shortstop by nature, DeLong played two seasons at Cameron, where he earned a bachelors degree in history in 2006 while playing in 79 games and finishing with 54 RBI. Prior to Cameron, he played two seasons at Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa and earned second-team all-region honors after batting .390 with 10 home runs and 56 RBI as a sophomore.

He received his masters of education in sports administration at East Central University in 2013. DeLong is married to Meghann, and the couple has two children, Ryker and Kaiya.
