Bats Come Alive In 22-7 Win Over NCTC

DENTON – North Texas softball continued its fall schedule Wednesday night with a 22-7 win over North Central Texas College in 10 innings. The Mean Green improve to 2-0 on the fall. Kourtney Williams homered for the second night in a row. Freshman Saleen Donohoe had a three-run shot of her own, her first of the fall.

North Texas had 20 hits in the game.

"It was a better mental effort," North Texas head coach Rodney DeLong said. "Better at-bats tonight than last night. I thought it was just a better effort throughout the game. We don't want to be complacent ever, and that was a battle for us at times last year. We are really trying to focus on our level of attention throughout practices, the week and through games. Especially in a 10 inning game. I was pleased with that effort tonight."

The Mean Green struck for eight runs in the third sparked by Donohoe's homer. Williams followed up with a two-run shot. Kenzie Young drove in Camille Grahmann for the sixth run of the frame before North Texas added two more.

Nicole Ochotnicki entered the game in the bottom of the sixth. She tripled in the seventh clearing the loaded bases before hitting a double in the ninth. She followed up with a sac-fly in the 10th to make the score 21-7.  Prior to her sac-fly, Tarah Hilton singled home two runs with the bases loaded.

Grahmann singled, driving in a run to make the score 22-7, ending the ballgame.

"I was just looking for better pitches," Ochotnicki said. "I wanted to make hard contact which is different from my approach yesterday. We've got a really new group of people, so this experience is great for them. We are focused on getting better throughout the fall."

The same cast of pitchers from Tuesday saw action. Bailey Tindell started going three innings, striking out three before making way for Ariel Thompson. Thompson threw three innings as well before Kailyn Berry pitching an inning. Lauren Craine also provided an inning of work before making way for Hope Trautwein who pitched two innings, striking out five of the six batters she faced. Trautwein was perfect in her two innings.

DeLong noted he saw improvement from night one to night two already. The Mean Green continue the fall schedule at home on October 9 against Weatherford College at 6 p.m.

"To see improvement in one day is a good thing," DeLong said. "We have a chance to be a really good offensive team. We aren't nearly as good as we will be. I think the more at-bats we get, the more comfortable we get we will see that growth continue."
