Beyond The Green

NORTH TEXAS FOOTBALL 2019-20

The award-winning series Beyond the Green will have a new look in 2019. Fans can expect to see the same unfettered access as in previous years, but the show will air throughout the fall and winter sports seasons and will be shown in two different segments on various streaming platforms.

The show, which began in 2013, has traditionally been exclusive to the North Texas football team. Now the show will feature stories on other sports also, bringing more original content while highlighting a broader, more inclusive segment of all Mean Green student-athletes.

The new format will be exclusively a streaming series, available on MeanGreenSports.com as well as YouTube, and Mean Green Sports social media channels Facebook and Instagram. The agreement with Fox Sports Southwest to air the show expired following the 2018 season.

"This new format allows us the flexibility to be more creative with the type of content and the frequency of that content under the Beyond the Green umbrella," Vice President and Director of Athletics Wren Baker said. "We don't have constraints on the length of our segments and we can distribute them continuously throughout the fall and winter sports season to give our fans more exciting shows that highlight our student-athletes and coaches."

There will be two episodes each week, the first one will be released on Tuesdays, and is titled Beyond the Green – Game Rewind. That episode will be created by the North Texas creative video team, led by UNT alumnus Matt Czizek. Another episode will air on Thursdays, and will be feature-based, telling the personal stories of Mean Green student-athletes as well as other behind the scenes content throughout the department. That episode will maintain the Beyond the Green title and will again be produced by UNT alumnus Ashton Campbell. The show will run for a minimum of 21 weeks, beginning in September and ending at the conclusion of the basketball season. The expectation is to bring the fans cinematic highlights and feature stories of many more student-athletes throughout the multiple sports seasons.

"It's really the best of both worlds for us," Baker said. "We are able to keep Ashton who is a passionate alumnus and terrific storyteller involved. We have also added additional resources to our in-house creative team that allows us to produce more content throughout the year to enhance the show."

Since 2013, Beyond the Green has been bringing Mean Green fans a behind-the-scenes look at North Texas football. The all-access program has been nominated several times for College Sports Media Awards programming, and in 2014 won first place in the Outstanding Feature category for a story on former football player and Army veteran Brandon McCoy.
