UNT Women Finish Strong In Bahamas

NASSAU, Bahamas – The North Texas women's golf team wrapped up play at the White Sands Bahamas Invitational, and its fall season, on Tuesday with its best score of the week, shooting a final-round, 1-under-par 287 to finish with a three-day total of 870. The score was good for sixth place in a field loaded with top-50 teams in the GolfStat national poll.

UNT, which entered the tournament ranked No. 60 – just 10 spots off the best ranking in program history – finished at 6-over par and ahead of five teams in the top 35.

"We are very pleased with our finish against a loaded field this week," UNT head coach Michael Akers said. "Defeating two top-25 teams will certainly help our ranking and the goal of earning an at-large bid to the NCAA regionals."

UNT was led by senior Lauren Cox, who shot a 4-under 68 on Tuesday and finished the tournament tied for 14th at even-par after a rough opening round on Monday. Sophomores Patricia Sinolungan and Katie Finley both finished at 2-over and tied for 21st. Finley shot a 1-under 71 after a 2-under 70 on Tuesday.

"Lauren went low today, and Katie certainly helped with under-par rounds today and yesterday," Akers said.

The Mean Green will resume play on Feb. 3, in a one-day, six-team tournament hosted by SMU, before beginning the spring tournament schedule at the Sugar Bowl on Feb. 16-18, in New Orleans – hosted by Tulane.
