Gift Card Phishing Scam

Please be aware and make others aware of a recent phishing scam that is frequently being reported at this time.  Target recipients receive an initial email that purports to be from a person in authority in their report chain asking them if they are busy.  If the target responds, they are then asked to purchase gift cards and to reply with the redeem codes for the gift cards. 

Please report such emails to security@untsystem.edu immediately so that we can initiate remediation. 

To avoid falling prey to such scams:

1. Check not only the name associated with the email, but the email address as well to ensure that it is coming from their official UNT address.
2. Be wary of any request for gift card purchases from a supervisor or person in authority.
