Bio: 

Peter Hyland joined the College of Visual Arts and Design in 2015. Prior to this, he held various positions within the fields of the visual and performing arts, creative writing, education, and fundraising at other prominent institutions, including the Menil Collection, Museum of Fine Arts Houston (MFAH), Honors College at the University of Houston (UH), North Lake College, Inprint, Houston Grand Opera, and Writers in the Schools. He has also lectured, presented, and served on panels at Carnegie Vanguard High School, St. John’s School, and Rice University.

As a fundraiser, Hyland helped secure support for exhibitions at the Menil Collection such as Magritte: The Mystery of the Ordinary, 1926-1938 (2014); Nice. Luc Tuymans (2013); Untitled (Structures): Leslie Hewitt in collaboration with Bradford Young (2013); and Claes Oldenburg: Strange Eggs (2012), among others. He also worked on the capital campaigns for the Menil Drawing Institute and the MFAH Bayou Bend Visitor Center.

He is the author of the poetry collection Out Loud (Sheep Meadow Press, 2013). His poems, book reviews, and articles have also appeared in American Literary Review, Conduit, Green Mountains Review, New England Review, Ploughshares, and elsewhere.

Hyland earned a BFA in Drawing and Painting from the University of North Texas in 2002 and an MFA in Creative Writing – Poetry from the University of Houston in 2007.
