The third annual meeting of the Division of Finance and Administration began May 24, 2017, in the Murchison Performing Arts Center with coffee and camaraderie at 8 a.m. Vice President Bob Brown opened the meeting with remarks about the excellent work being done in each of the departments under his purview: Budget Office, Business Development, Facilities, Organizational Development, Police, Risk Management Services, Student Financial Services and University Information Services.
Bryan Dodge, author, consultant and personal development speaker from Allen, Texas, delivered a 90-minute inspiring and actionable keynote address about success on and off the job. With a short break to meander over to the Gateway Center, participants selected a learning session followed by a lunch of fajitas and vegan selections in the Ballroom.
Voting by applause, the audience members selected the winner of the division's traveling trophy that is given in recognition of the team that exhibited the most team spirit in a three-minute video; this year's award went to went to Risk Management Services.
Leading up to the division meeting, departments were asked to contribute to the UNT Food Pantry with more than 1,000 pounds of food collected.
“The significance of this donation cannot be overstated,” says Rodney Mitchell, associate dean of students. “It can be difficult to procure donations for the summer months. Receiving the donation from the Division of Finance and Administration helps ensure students will have access to food over the summer and will help us start the fall semester with food in the pantry.”
The division is the official summer partner of the UNT Food Pantry – but Mitchell says that others who want to help this summer can still donate food or volunteer. Volunteers are especially needed in the summer and at the beginning of each long semester to help inventory and organize donations.
