Undergraduate
Our Visual Art Studies degree program leads to a B.F.A. with all-level teacher certification in art, accredited by the Texas State Board for Educator Certification. The program offers a comprehensive approach that includes study of the theory and practice of art criticism, art history, aesthetics and art making at the EC-12 levels. The Visual Art Studies undergraduate program prepares students to go on to pursue teaching careers in EC-12 school environments.
Training may also be applied to careers with non-profit arts organizations and serve as a foundation for advanced study in related fields, such as museum education.
Students with an undergraduate degree in Visual Art Studies will examine global artistic production, relevant technologies, critical methods, teaching and learning theories, and innovative approaches to pedagogy and knowledge acquisition. The Visual Art Studies program aims at creating a citizenry well informed on educational issues, high-quality graduates in art education and a workforce well prepared for teaching in a global economy.

Congratulations to Art Education PhD alumna Maria Leake on the publication of her article "Social Engagements With Contemporary Art: Connecting Theory with Practice" in the September 2014 issue of Art Education.This special issue of Art Education, The Journal of the National Art Education Association, focuses on Theory & Practice in Art Education. Marie-Claire Valdez
Marie-Claire Valdez, Ph.D. student, published an article in Trends, The Journal of The Texas Art Education Association. This journal is published annually and is distributed to all TAEA members. The purpose of this peer-reviewed journal is to expand art education discourse by highlighting research, issues, and concerns that can inform our theoretical and pedagogical practices in and out of the classroom.
