When it was time to roll out a holiday promotion for Omni Hotels & Resorts, Sarah Schram and her co-workers used their creativity to show their gratitude to hotel guests.

As part of the “Thanks a Latte” promotion, guests received a coupon for a complimentary latte and a Starbucks gift card.

“I enjoyed creating the coupon and a packet to put the coupon and gift card in for the package,” said Schram, a master's graduate of the Mayborn and corporate communications manager for Omni Hotels & Resorts. In addition to developing promotions, she works on projects with the company’s acquisition and development team to create collateral materials that are used to pitch investors who may want to invest in a hotel or when they want to build one.

“I really enjoy the creative aspect of my job,” she said. “Creating packages and collateral to go with them are two facets of my job that are really fun.”

She first worked at Omni Hotels & Resorts as a public relations intern while she also was a graduate student. Her intern responsibilities included writing press releases and tracking media coverage.

“Going to get my master’s especially getting my master in journalism definitely helped me become a better writer which is a big part of what I do now which is a lot of editing and writing,” Schram said.

Schram earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from the University of Oklahoma in May 2005. As she reviewed graduate programs, she decided that she wanted to go to a university in the Dallas-Fort Worth area because of the contacts she could make.

“I did the research and looked at UNT, and just felt that it was the best value for the education I would receive as well as the networking connections,” she said.

She earned her master’s in journalism with an emphasis in strategic communication in May 2009.

She advises students to leverage connections through the Mayborn, and shadow a person in the industry. She also reminds students about the reality of a job.

“While it may seem like the coolest job ever, there is lot more hard work in every single job than you think there is going to be,” she said.
