About this Site

This site allows you to search finding aids for archival holdings within the UNT Libraries. Finding aids describe archival materials and include information about specific collections, their provenance and their contents. Most finding aids contain information about the collection's creator and the arrangement of the collections, typically shown as a hierarchy of series, boxes and folders. Level of description varies, and some finding aids may include simply an inventory of box identifiers.

The finding aid will indicate when materials in an archival collection are available in a digital format, and accessible through the UNT Digital Library and/or The Portal to Texas History. Most archival collections are not digitized.

Our collections contain a variety of manuscript and archive materials housed with Special Collections, the UNT Music Library and the UNT Media Library.

Browsing and Searching

You may browse collections by categories (Manuscripts, University Archives, Microforms, Media Library, Music Library or UNT System), or alphabetically by collection title. You may also search for finding aids using the search box above.

Searching is limited to descriptive records of our collections. There is no comprehensive full-text index of the individual collections/materials described on this site.

Viewing Materials

Users may request access to archival material in the Judge Sarah T. Hughes Reading Room, or the Edna Mae Sandborn Reading Room (Music Special Collections), both located on the 4th floor of Willis Library on the UNT campus in Denton. (directions)

To access archival materials, please request delivery directly through the finding aid. Instructions are presented in line with Box/Container contents in the finding aid.

  • Use the truck icon to request delivery of materials.
  • Use the duplicate icon to request duplication of materials.

New users will need to create an Aeon user account in order to request materials. Once materials are requested you may view the status of your request by logging into your Aeon account.

Requests for duplication (scanning) of archival materials may also be made directly in the finding aid, through Aeon. Requests for duplication may incur fees for scanning. A member of the Special Collections staff will confirm fees for scanning services prior to processing any duplication request.
