Photo Journalism
Students in the photo journalism program learn the visual storytelling skills necessary to reach audiences using both traditional and new media.
Coursework prepares students to work in 21st Century newsrooms, using digital and online media with an emphasis on video shooting and editing, creating audio slideshows and generating material for the web.

Classroom Experience
In addition to receiving instruction in the proper techniques for gathering sound, shooting and editing video and producing visual stories for the web, students learn the fundamental journalism practices of making ethical decisions regarding coverage of a news story, accuracy, writing proficiency and meeting strict deadlines.
Students also have the opportunity to produce audio slideshows, print portfolios, and online portfolios.
Field Experience
Students complete real-world reporting assignments and documentary projects where they learn the fundamentals of telling compelling stories using visual media. Students also have the opportunity to have resume-building experiences shadowing professional photojournalists or working for the North Texas Daily, North Texas Television (NTTV) and Denton Community Television. There are also many internship opportunities available in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, the fourth largest media market in the nation.
Facilities and Equipment
Students have access to production studios, computer labs, digital cameras for still and video and multimedia software such as Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, Adobe InDesign, Flash and Soundslides.
