LinkedIn Learning is a leading online learning platform that helps people learn business, software, technology and creative skills to achieve personal and professional goals. Through the University of North Texas subscription, UNT students and employees have access to the LinkedIn Learning video library of engaging, top-quality courses taught by recognized industry experts.

LinkedIn Learning courses can be accessed from within Canvas and faculty are encouraged to incorporate these materials into their online courses and in a classroom setting. For information on how to access the LinkedIn Learning website and login, the UIT Helpdesk has created a guide.

Click on the options below to learn how to integrate LinkedIn Learning in Canvas:

Assignments

To integrate a LinkedIn Learning video as an assignment, assign points, and view a student's progress through the videos, follow these steps:

  1. Open Canvas and login.

  2. Navigate to the course you would like to add the LinkedIn Learning course to.

  3. In the Course Navigation Bar on the left, click on the Assignments tab.

  4. Create a new assignment by clicking the green +Assignment button.

  5. Add an assignment name at the top and instructions in the text box.

  6. Assign grade points or percentage. LinkedIn Learning will sync with the gradebook in Canvas.

  7. Under Submission Type select "External Tool" from the dropdown.

  8. Click the gray "Find" button next to the URL box.

  9. In the "Configure External Tool" window, scroll down and select "LinkedIn Learning" then click the green Select button.

  10. Check mark the box next to "Load This Tool in a New Tab" below the URL box.

  11. Click Save & Publish at the bottom of the window.

  12. The new assignment will open in the same window. 

  13. Click the gray button to load LinkedIn Learning in a new tab.

  14. A new tab will open to the UNT System single sign-in page. Login using your EUID and password.

  15. After logging in, click on the arrow icon in the top navigation bar that says "Go to Admin."

  16. Click on the Content icon.

  17. Search the Learning Mangement catalog for the appropriate course.

  18. Recommend icon

    Click on the course to open it and then click on the Recommend icon in the top right corner of the video window. 

  19. In the dropdown, select "Get SSO link." The link will automatically copy to your clipboard.

  20. Return to the assignment you created earlier in Canvas.

  21. Click the gray "Edit Assignment Settings" button on the far right.

  22. In the External Tool URL box, replace the current URL with the URL you copied from LinkedIn Learning using copy + paste.

  23. Click the green Save button at the bottom of the window.

  24. The LinkedIn Learning course is now connected to the Canvas assignment. Canvas will automatically monitor a student's progress through the LinkedIn Learning course and assign a grade in the gradebook.

Modules

If you would prefer students to access a course from LinkedIn Learning but not as an assignment, you can add the SSO link as an external tool through Modules by following these instructions.
