Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction

The Master of Education degree with a major in Curriculum and Instruction is designed to enhance the knowledge and expertise of educators, combining theoretical perspectives and research-based practice with multiple opportunities for field-based projects and action research. Its goal is to support educators as they assume leadership roles at the campus and district levels, or to prepare them for further graduate studies.

Master of Education in Teaching

The certification programs offered are as follows: EC-6 ESL Core Subjects, EC-6 Bilingual Core Subjects, 4-8 Mathematics, 4-8 Science, or Secondary Education at the post-baccalaureate level.

Master of Education in Educational Leadership

The Educational Leadership faculty provide innovative educational experiences to meet education leaders' specialized and advanced academic and practical needs. Our programs lead to master's and doctoral degrees and certification in school leadership. The program supports both the public and private educational sectors by providing advancement and application of knowledge while emphasizing research and creative activities in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and beyond.

Doctor of Philosophy in Curriculum and Instruction

The Doctor of Philosophy program in Curriculum and Instruction is a research-intensive degree intended primarily for individuals who plan careers as scholars, researchers, and teacher educators in higher education or who will hold other research-oriented leadership positions. The overall objectives are for students to gain an integrative perspective on education, to have a firm grounding in educational theory, pedagogical practice and research methodology, to engage in educational efforts focused on social justice and equity, to develop research agendas to pursue in their own professional careers, and to be prepared to be leaders in research and pedagogy.

Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership

The Educational Leadership program has adopted core values and beliefs that align with the six CPED principles and define what our graduates are able to do in the context of diverse learning environments. The UNT Educational leadership program develops graduates who are able to lead learning organizations; engage ethically with the community; advocate for diversity, equity and inclusion; and develop theory to practice solutions.

Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Leadership

The Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Leadership is a research-oriented program. Certification as a superintendent may be part of the program through the Hilltop Securities/UNT Superintendent Certification Program. The PhD program prepares individuals to conduct and evaluate research that will expand knowledge in educational leadership. Typically, the PhD student plans a career as a university professor, a policy analyst, or a research director in a state or local education agency.
