UNT Transcript - FAQ

What is an “Official” Transcript?

An official transcript is UNT’s certified statement of your entire academic record at UNT, and will include undergraduate and graduate coursework, as well as any transfer credit accepted.  Official transcripts are either printed on special security paper with the Registrar’s signature, the date printed and the school seal, or delivered electronically through a secure third party in PDF format. We also provide electronic copies of students’ transcripts.

If I order an electronic copy of my transcript, is it really “official”?

UNT has appointed Credentials Inc. as the designated agent for processing and sending official electronic transcripts on your behalf.  The PDF transcript that is produced using this service contains the identical information as the printed transcript and can be certified as unaltered by the recipient during the delivery process.  Though UNT considers transcripts produced this way as 100% official, it is the student’s responsibility to ensure the anticipated agency/recipient will accept them and that this format will meet their needs.  Note: Transcripts that include academic records prior to 1984 are not eligible for electronic delivery and will be printed and mailed.

Please Note: The PDF transcript will be considered an Official Transcript to the “Intended Recipient” for whom you request the order to be sent. The Official Transcript will be available on the service for 48 hours after it has initially been downloaded (excluding weekends and holidays). The PDF transcript is no longer official if it has been printed and will state “PRINTED COPY” on the face of the transcript. Forwarding a PDF transcript through e-mail makes it unofficial.

If I have a question about my order, who do I contact?

UNT has appointed Credentials Inc. as the designated agent for processing and sending official electronic transcripts on our behalf. Credentials Inc has been granted the authority to process all such requests and respond to any inquiries regarding the transactions.  If you have questions about the process or encounter difficulty in entering your order, Credentials has Customer Service representatives available from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm on Monday-Thursday and from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm (CST/CDT) on Fridays. The Customer Service number is 847-716-3005.

Can I see an unofficial transcript for my own records?

Unofficial transcripts are available 24/7 to currently enrolled and former students at the University of North Texas for no charge.  To view your unofficial transcript, log in to myUNT and click on the Student Center. Note: Transcripts that include academic records prior to 1984 are not stored electronically and are not accessible via myUNT.

Will both my undergraduate and graduate records be included?

UNT does not issue partial transcripts that contain a student’s undergraduate or graduate records separately.  UNT transcripts are complete records of your entire enrollment at UNT and will include undergraduate and graduate coursework, as well as any transfer credit accepted.

After I place the order, when will I receive my transcript?

Requests for paper copies will be processed and mailed within five business days of receipt. Requests for electronic copies will be sent as soon as processing is complete and are typically received the same day.   Note: Transcripts that include academic records prior to 1984 are not eligible for electronic delivery and will be printed and mailed.

Will you let me know if there is a problem when processing my request?

You will receive notification by e-mail if there are any problems with your order.  When filling out your transcript request online, make sure to verify the contact information you provide.

What happens if my record has a “hold” on it?

Your request will not be processed, no transcript will be issued, and your credit/debit card will not be charged until all holds are cleared.  View your holds by logging in to myUNT.  Pending transcript requests will expire after 30 days and a new request will be required.

When do I have to pay?

Your payment information must accompany the transcript request.  Once it is verified that your request can be processed (no holds, etc.), your credit/debit card will be charged.

Can my parent pay for my transcript order?

Yes.  Payment information must accompany the transcript request.  When completing an online transcript request, make sure the cardholder is available to authorize payment on the credit/debit card being used for the order.

Can I have my transcript faxed?

Our office does not fax copies of transcripts since faxed copies of transcripts are not considered to be Official.

Can I have my transcript mailed to myself?

Yes.  We will send your transcript to the mailing or e-mail address you type on the request form.  Make sure to verify the address before you submit the order, as UNT will not offer refunds for incorrect addresses entered.

Can a third party order my transcript?

We must have the student’s permission to release copies of their official transcript, and therefore do not accept third party transcript requests.

Is there a charge for official transcripts?

Official transcripts are available on demand at no charge in the UNT Registrar’s Office (1st floor, Eagle Student Services Center) during regular business hours.

You may also order your official transcript online 24/7.  A charge of $10 per transcript is required for this service, and the transcript can be mailed or e-mailed to the address you choose. (Expedited processing charges such as next day delivery will result in additional shipping charges.) Please note: $10 will be charged per copy. For example, if you wanted to order three (3) official transcripts, you would be charged $30.

Where can I have my transcript sent?

You may request that your transcript be sent to any mailing address (paper copies) or e-mail address (electronic copies that you authorize).  Make sure to verify the address before you submit your order, as UNT will not offer refunds for incorrect addresses entered.  Note: Transcripts that include academic records prior to 1984 are not eligible for electronic delivery and will be printed and mailed.

Can I request my transcript in person?

Yes.  Official transcripts are available on demand at no charge in the UNT Registrar’s Office (1st floor, Eagle Student Services Center) during regular business hours.

Can someone else pick up my transcript for me?

Yes. The person you designate must make the request in person UNT Registrar’s Office (1st floor, Eagle Student Services Center), provide a valid ID, and must bring a signed authorization from you including your student ID.

What if I have an attachment to be included with my transcript?

You will be able to upload attachments during the online order process.

Can I request express delivery?

Yes. This may be done as part of your online order and will include additional charges. If ordering via Fed Ex, the request will need to be received by 12:30pm for it to be processed and sent out same day (excluding weekends and holidays). Fed Ex requests received after 12:30 will be processed the next business day.

What if my name has changed since my student record was last updated?

Please be sure to update your official legal name on your student record prior to ordering your transcript if you want the updated name to print. UNT will not refund charges related to transcript if the name has not been officially updated at the time of the order. You can find more information about updating your personal information here.

What if it is my first semester at UNT?

Please be sure to indicate on your order to Hold for Grades. You do not have an official UNT transcript available until after grades are officially posted for your first completed term of enrollment.

What if I do not have an active myUNT account, will I still be able to order a transcript online?

Yes.  You may also place your request online here. Please note: An authorization form is sometimes required to authenticate the request. All current and former students can request access to the myUNT portal by contacting 940-565-2324 or following the instructions HERE to obtain access to the my.UNT.edu portal.

What if I don't have a credit or debit card?

You should consider purchasing a single use, pre-paid credit card so you can place your order online.  Official transcripts are also available on demand at no charge in the UNT Registrar’s Office (1st floor, Eagle Student Services Center) during regular business hours.

I ordered an electronic transcript and entered the recipient’s e-mail address incorrectly. Can this be corrected?

It is recommended that you cancel the order and submit a new request. If you have questions about the process or encounter difficulty in entering your order, Credentials has Customer Service representatives available from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm on Monday-Thursday and from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm (CST/CDT) on Fridays. What if I want the current semester’s grades or degree listed on my transcript?

You can specify in your order to hold the request for the semester's grades to be finalized or for the degree to be posted. This will put the order into a holding queue that will be processed once your student record has been updated.
