As a student in the Mayborn School of Journalism, you will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of student media outlets and clubs that help you apply lessons learned in the classroom and give you experience in professional communication. You’ll work with real clients, learn the tools you need to meet real challenges and gain experience to succeed in the real world.

Our internship program has strong ties to leading agencies, publishers, and news outlets in the Dallas-Fort Worth area that provide graduates with the skills and hands-on experience they will need to reach their career goals. Broadcasting internships are available from area network, independent and cable stations, radio stations and websites. News and photo students can intern with magazines, newspapers, book publishers and their websites. Many students find full-time jobs from their internships. Students operate their own advertising and public relations agency, SWOOP. Each year, the agency pitches clients and does award-winning work on a variety of real-life projects for the UNT system and other local clients and brands.

The North Texas Daily has been providing news, commentary and entertainment to the UNT community since 1948. To supplement your journalism coursework, you’ll learn the business of operating a newspaper.

NTDailyRadio.com serves UNT and Denton with podcasts consisting of original and entertaining content that can be enjoyed by anyone using a computer, tablet or smartphone.

Students produce, write, report, shoot, edit and anchor newscasts for NT Daily TV using the latest technology and software, supervised by faculty with extensive experience in the broadcast industry. Programs air on Denton Community TV, the city’s public access channel, and online.

The Mayborn’s Mac Lab is an excellent resource that gives students access to the latest technology and publication software from Adobe, Apple, RedGiant and others, giving students the tools to take their work to the next level.

Abundant Internship Opportunities

UNT is located in the 5th largest media market in the country, which provides access to numerous outstanding internship opportunities.
