Keyboard Percussion Workshop
June 10–June 14, 2019
The UNT Keyboard Percussion Workshop is a five-day seminar designed to serve high school, college and professional level keyboard percussionists. Activities include private and group lessons with world class instructors, master classes, clinics, student and faculty performances, and technique labs focused on all aspects of keyboard percussion performance. High school participants will play in keyboard percussion ensembles directed by Workshop faculty.
The Keyboard Percussion Workshop also includes a special jazz vibraphone track in which students will have lessons and master classes on improvisation and vibraphone technique with jazz vibraphonists Ed Smith (UNT and SMU Percussion faculty member) and Drew Tucker (Malletlab). In addition, students who choose this jazz track will also attend the non-jazz KPW master classes, clinics and performances presented by the entire KPW faculty throughout the week.

This symposium offers three tracks of study: 1. High school 2. College age and above 3. Jazz vibraphone intensive
Requirements
Each participant is expected to have a minimum of two solo works or etudes in progress to use in lessons, master classes, and possible performances.

There will be no late registration for the symposium this year.

The last day of registration for the Keyboard Percussion Workshop is June 3rd, 2019.
All payments will be made by credit card in 2019.
- $815 – Resident, includes tuition, meals, room, and t-shirt
- $575 – Commuter, includes tuition and t-shirt
- $95 – Optional Commuter meal card (does not include breakfast)
- $45 – Late departure fee includes a room for the night of June 14th. No meal is included for either the evening of the 14th or the morning of the 15th.
- $45 – Early arrival, includes room for night of June 9th (Includes a pizza dinner but does NOT include breakfast on the morning of June 10th). Early arrival check-in time will be after 3:00 p.m. on June 10th. Contact Workshop director Mark Ford with any questions regarding early arrival arrangements.
Check in begins at 8:30 a.m. on the morning of June 10th.
Cancellations by participants must be made on or before June 1st to receive a refund of your monies, minus a $50 processing fee. No refunds will be issued after June 1, 2019.
Instruments
The symposium will provide instruments for participants to use for practice and performances while at UNT. You will need to bring your own mallets and your solo music.
On-Site Check-In Instructions
Check in begins at 8:00 a.m. on the morning of June 10th.
Starting at 8:00 a.m. – You can go to your dorm and check in with the desk clerk. Put your personal items in your room or where instructed by the dorm staff, then come directly to the Music Building Commons area.
8:00-9:00 a.m. – Check in at the registration table in Music Building Commons area which is located on the first floor. Once you have checked in you can either go back to your dorm and set up your room or wait in the Music Building Commons Area until the General Meeting.
9:00 a.m. – General Meeting in Music Building Room 142, Percussion Rehearsal Room.
Additional Information
1. Commuters need to arrive at the music building at 9:00 a.m. each day. The symposium ends at 9:30 p.m. each evening, and commuters should be picked up at the Main Music Building.
2. Parking on Campus: Everyone must purchase a Camp Permit from the front desk of the dorm to park on campus. Camp Permits will be $6 and can be purchased from the McConnell front desk. Commuters my park their cars in the “R” lot across the street from McConnell Hall during the day. Resident participants who bring cars to campus can also park in this “R” lot. Do NOT park in the “A” lots directly in front of Bruce Hall. Residents under 18 years of age are not allowed to use their cars while on campus for the symposium.
3. Airport Shuttle Service: UNT does not offer this service. However we can put you in contact with a shuttle service. Please contact Mark Ford in advance for more information.
4. Dorms: Participants under 18 years of age will be staying in West Hall dormitory in double occupancy rooms. Workshop counselors will stay on their floors and conduct room checks each evening. Participants over 18 will reside in West Hall dormitory on a different floor. These are single occupancy rooms. If the dormitory changes, you will be contacted via email.
5. Dining will be in Bruce Hall cafeteria for all participants with meal cards. Meals will be provided as follows:
- 6/11/2018 – Lunch & Dinner
- 6/12-6/14 – Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
- 6/15/2018 – Breakfast & Lunch.
Early Arrivals and Late Departures are responsible for their own meals. There are sandwich and pizza shops that will deliver to the dorms. The desk personnel can assist you with that information. Bruce Hall Cafeteria will be open so Early Arrivals and Late Departures can pay walk-in prices (approximately $7.50) to eat if they would prefer.
6. Things to bring: Residents need to bring their own twin bed linens, pillows and towels. Bring comfortable clothing and performance attire (black shirt/pants or black dress). You will need to bring your own mallets and your solo music. You may want to bring extra money for purchasing music, mallets, vending machines, etc.
7. Phone Numbers: Dorms do not have telephones in the rooms. Participants may bring their cell phones, but they must be turned off during symposium hours.
