Student Guide to AD1

You may have landed on this page because you registered for an Access Day 1 (AD1) course or you are curious about what Access Day 1 is at UNT.

Access Day 1 (AD1) is an affordability initiative at UNT that can help lower the cost of your course materials while giving you digital access on the first day of the semester. AD1 courses have a fee associated with them through the registration process that accounts for the cost of your materials. The fee for each course section may differ depending on the materials required for the specific course.  You always have the choice to opt-out prior to the deadline (Sept 9) of the program but we encourage you to make sure you have the course materials so you are ready to start on day one.

By choosing an AD1 course at registration...

  • You avoid the long line at the bookstore or avoid spending time trying to find the best deal online.
  • You receive extremely competitive pricing on required course materials.
  • You know that the materials are the most up-to-date and chosen by your instructor.
  • You get to start your semester off feeling prepared by having digital access to your course materials at your fingertips on the first day of the course.
  • Since it's a course fee, you can use financial aid to cover the cost of the course materials.

Opt-out

Required by federal law, you also have the choice to opt-OUT of the AD1 program by following these steps once the Canvas course is open for the semester.  The deadline for opt-out is Sept 9.

  1. Login to Canvas.
  2. Find the AD1 Course that you registered for in your course list.
  3. Click "Course Materials" on the left side of page in menu.
  4. And select the "Opt-Out" link at the top right of the page.
  5. Check the box "Opted-Out."
  6. Then click "Confirm"
  7. Your refund will be processed after September 10.

Other Commonly asked Questions

I prefer paperback versions of textbooks, can I get a physical copy of the digital content included in my AD1 course?

A print option is available for select courses. The print option is not included in the AD1 course fee but it can be purchased at a discounted rate at Barnes & Noble at UNT when available. Print options will be available to purchase after the census date (Sept 9, 2019 last day for withdrawal for the course without penalty) as long as the student has not opted-out of the AD1 course fee.

I decided to drop the course for the semester, do I still need to opt-out?

Good question! And no you don't have to opt-out at that point. You will automatically be removed from the course and refunds for the course materials will be issued if the drop occurs on or before the official day of record.

I accidentally opted-out, can I opt back in?

Accidents happen, and of course you still have the choice to opt back in as long as it's within the deadline listed on Canvas.

Just follow these steps: 1) Login to Canvas, 2) Find the AD1 course that you registered for, 3) Click the Course Materials Tab, 4) Uncheck the opt-OUT box, and 5) Click Confirm.
