The student newspaper for the University of North Texas has been published under two main names: the Campus Chat and North Texas Daily. The type of information published has changed over the years.  Early editions gave information on the activities of individual students, organizations, and faculty members, as well as a look at campus events.  In more recent years the newspaper has covered the activities of school organizations,  national and world news, campus events, and  Denton businesses, events and issues such as housing and voting.

The papers, photographs, and artifacts collected between the years 1957 and 1962 by the late Regents Professor Emerita of Public Administration, Charldean Newell [1939 - 2014], of the University of North Texas.  All items in Series 1 were originally located in scrapbooks made during her time as a student at UNT (then North Texas State College). Series 2 contains event tickets.

The majority of this collection is comprised of Payroll logbooks from 1937 to 1955. Additional materials include logbooks related to employee retirement, a record of various insurance companies, and employee contact numbers. A hardbound scrapbook dated 1975 contains accounts of the Denton Chapter of the Texas Public Employees Association.

This collection contains three record books and a scrapbook of the Physical Education Club, describing meeting minutes, member lists, and events, especially as it relates to the Modern Dance Group. These records include information from Delta Psi Kappa, a national honors fraternity supporting physical education, health and health sciences, and recreation.

This collection contains the records of the NTSU (now UNT) Office of Space Management and Planning from the 1960s through the mid-1980s. Materials include reports, studies, correspondence, planning publications, questionnaires, newsletters, location-specific documentation, analyses, workbooks, and manuals. A significant portion of documents are departmental five-year plans related to anticipated space needs at the university.

The unedited and edited manuscripts of books published by the University of North Texas Press make up the bulk of the documents in this collection.  The papers show editing requests, changes made by the authors, photographes used in the publications, and in some cases the layout of the finished work. The start date of 2006 is approximate, as many items are undated.

Mark Evan Rorvig, Ph.D (1950-2002) served as associate professor of library and information sciences at the University of North Texas from 1995-2002. Dr. Rorvig’s research focused primarily on deciphering and processing large amounts of information for research and surveying purposes. Through his research Dr. Rorvig produced four U.S. patents on information retrieval algorithms. Additionally, Dr. Rorvig had been nationally recognized as a pioneer in the field of information retrieval. His research benefited the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and Intel Corp. In addition to serving as faculty at UNT, Dr. Rorvig served as a computer engineer for NASA at Lyndon B. Johnson.

This collection contains the UNT Scholarship Office Records, the bulk of which relate to outside agency scholarships from 1986 to 1989. The remainder of the collection includes documents relating to individual scholarships, inactive scholarships, notification letters, thank you letters, and sport-individual scholarships from 1985 - 1990 for both men's and women's teams.

This collection documents both the academic and poetry careers of Cecil Eugene (“Gene”) Shuford’s, including from his time at the University of Arkansas to the North Texas State University (NTSU), from 1924 to 1995. The collection includes literary manuscripts and drafts, notebooks, guides, correspondence, programs, newspaper clippings, certificates, publications, photographs, obituaries, and his thesis typescript.

The collection includes documents about the Ariel Club, The Poetry Society of Texas and The Poetry Society of America. It contains War World II correspondence between Shuford and his family. It also includes photographs of Shuford and family, NTSU students and buildings, and members of the Poetry Society of Texas. The collection also contains correspondence from editors of publications, book reviews and drafts of poetry written by Shuford, and clippings that highlight Shuford, NT Exes, like Bob St. John and NTSU Journalism department accomplishments.

The Gerry Smith Collection is comprised of 8 boxes of institutional and library-related documents detailing the career of University of North Texas (UNT) Librarian, Geraldine English Smith. The collection chronicles her career with items including professional awards and recognition, personal notes and memos, professional correspondences, and numerous notes and agendas from professional conferences and committee meetings. Other notable items in this collection are Bibliographic Control Department Procedures, Library Policy Memos, and photographs.

Significant achievements of Smith's career include being an integral part of the conversion of the UNT Libraries from a manual card catalog to an online system in the mid-1980s, supervising both fulltime employees and student workers as a unit supervisor in the Automated Services Division of the Bibliographic Control Department of the UNT Libraries, and serving on several university and library committees including the University Parking Committee, the University of North Texas League for Professional Women, and the Library Assembly Committee. In 1990, she served as the Faculty Liaison Librarian for the Journalism Department at UNT.

Smith attended numerous professional conferences every year including VTLS, TLA, ALA, and AMIGOS. She also regularly presented training seminars for library staff and authored several in-house publications to accompany them. Professionally, she was a member of the American Library Association, the Texas Library Association, and the VTLS Users Group.

The University of North Texas Foundation Records (1924-1982) contains numerous documents, letters, and newspaper clippings from scholarships and grants from the UNT Foundation, formerly known as the NTSU Educational Foundation, Inc. The NTSU Board of Regents established the foundation in 1972 to receive gift funds to be utilized for scholarships and grants for NTSU students. Correspondence with numerous distinguished UNT alumni, faculty, and local citizens is contained within the collection.

The papers contain Wilson's research for his book of the same name on Hamilton Park (HP), the planned African-American community in Dallas, TX. Compiled in the early 90s, the research includes his interviews of original residents and development planners--which were done in conjunction with the UNT Oral History program--journal and newspaper articles on social and racial issues at the time, the challenges of creating and maintaining such a development, obtaining financing for home owners, how the community thrived and evolved, and interracial cooperation. This is done in the context of challenges for African-American leaders in the nation at the time and the personal stories of residents and decision-makers in the community.

This collection contains lantern slides (glass slides) from the University of North Texas which were used to help educate students on world history, geography, religion, music, art and a variety of other subjects. The estimated dates for this collection are 1910-1940. The slides were given to the Historical Collection, then moved into the University Archives in 1986.

This collection contains materials from the various iterations of the UNT University Information Technology (UIT) Department throughout the years, focusing on the evolution of the computing system on campus. The Lyle Irby Harman North Texas State Photography Collection consists of black and white photographs showcasing student life on the North Texas campus during the early 1950s.

Sam McAlister, 1898-1963, was a Distinguished Professor and Director of the Government Department at North Texas State University (now the University of North Texas).  The Sam McAlister Collection contains McAlister's correspondence related to his work in the government department, the Fine Arts Series, the Kiwanis Club, and the National Education Association, as well as his personal correspondence.  The Collection also contains McAlister's speeches, teaching materials, and textbook manuscript, The Individual and Government.
