Abstract

Collection of documents related to Texas lawyer Renne Allred Jr.'s insurance cases in the 1950s.

Scope and Contents of the Materials

Collection of materials affiliated with insurance cases tried by Allred in the 1950s. Materials consist of plaintiff's original petitions for V.F. Taylor, receiver for ICT Insurance Company, v. Ben Jack Cage et al and for J.D. Wheeler, receiver for General American Casualty Company, v. C.B. Erwin et al. Also includes  biographical material for Allred's brother James V. Allred, Governor of Texas from 1935-1939, a copy of the December 5, 1958 Texas Observer article on Will Wilson, correspondence between Ronnie Duggar and Renne Allred Jr, as well as political correspondence and biographical data for Renne Allred Jr.

Renne Allred Jr.-- lawyer practicing in Texas, involved particularly with insurance cases. Also involved with Texas Democratic politics. Brother of James Allred, Governor of Texas 1935-1939.

Biographical Note

Lawyer serving In Texas as prosecuting attorney of Montague County (1927-1928), district judge of Rusk and Gregg Counties (1932-1934) and attorney for the receiver of Texas Insolvent Insurance Company (1940-1954). His investigation of the first Texas insurance scandals led to closer regulation of insurance companies
