Start Your Journey

1. Attend Study Abroad 101

Study Abroad 101 will equip you with general information about your study abroad options. Study abroad staff and alumni discuss all the basics: program types, eligibility, housing, finances, the application process and how to search for and select a program. Sessions are held during the Spring and Fall terms every Monday and Thursday from 2:30-3:30 p.m. in Marquis Hall 215.  Sign up for a session.

2. Research Programs

After attending Study Abroad 101, you'll be better equipped to search for and identify programs that meet your academic, financial and personal goals. Create a short list of programs that interest you.

3. Meet with a Study Abroad Advisor

Schedule a one-on-one appointment with a Study Abroad Advisor to discuss your list of options. This appointment will directly address your specific questions and concerns and help to identify the best program for you.

4. Talk to your Academic Advisor

When meeting with your advisor, ask about which courses would be best for you to take abroad, which courses you cannot take outside of UNT, and which term would be best for your academic career. Identify courses to take abroad that matter toward your degree.

5. Explore Funding

Explore scholarship, financial aid and external funding to learn about available UNT, departmental, or nationally-competitive scholarship opportunities. Work with Student Money Management Center to develop a budget, and Special Programs at Student Financial Services to discuss loan options.

6. Apply online

Choose from more than 800 programs in 90 countries. Preview application documents

7. Attend a Pre-Departure Orientation Session

Pre-Departure Orientation is required. We'll cover what to pack, who to call in the event of an emergency and more.
