Chair's Welcome

Eugene MartinWelcome to the Department of Media Arts at the University of North Texas. The Department of Media Arts offers the Bachelor of Arts degrees in both Media Arts (MRTS) and Converged Broadcast Media (CBCM), and the Master of Arts degree in Media Industry and Critical/Cultural Studies and the Master of Fine Arts Degree in Documentary Production and Studies.

The department is recognized as one of the state's and nation's leading programs in preparing students for careers across the media industries. Located in Denton (part of the top-five ranked Dallas-Fort Worth market), the Media Arts program offers an outstanding faculty, a great learning facility, and co-curricular activities including KNTU-FM (our 100,000-watt radio station), and ntTV (North Texas Television on Charter cable 192 and Frontier FiOS 46) to provide a wonderful setting for study, learning and professional experience. We also host the student-run UNT Short Film Club in our building.

Our undergraduate degree programs encompass both creative skills-based training along with theoretical knowledge covering history, criticism, management, economics and policy, all built upon a strong liberal arts foundation. We also offer several certificate programs.

This educational experience prepares students for many different career opportunities in and around the electronic media and film industries, as well as preparation for advanced study.

In addition to our Master of Arts programs in industry studies and critical/cultural studies, we also offer the terminal Master of Fine Arts degree in documentary production and studies. Graduates of this program have gone on to successful careers in the U.S and international documentary arenas, as well as being hired as faculty members at the university level.

For information on admission requirements for our graduate degrees, click Graduate Studies or contact the Director of the MA in Industry/Critical Studies or the Director of the MFA in Documentary Film.

We encourage you to explore our site. If you have any questions about our programs, please send an email to mediaarts@unt.edu or call 940.565.2537.
