Authorized Payers are authorized by students to make payments on their student account
UNT provides the following alternatives for the payment of tuition and fees during the fall and spring semesters:
Tuition and fees must be paid in full for each summer term upon registration or by the payment deadline for early registration. Payment for any additional fees resulting from Schedule Revision or Add/Drops is due by the end of the Add/Drop period. Tuition payment by installment is not offered during the summer sessions.
PLEASE NOTE:
By choosing the installment plan, a student recognizes they are in a contractual agreement. A student who fails to make payment of tuition and fees, including any incidental fees, by the due date, may be prohibited from registering for classes until full payment is made. A student who fails to make payment prior to the end of the semester may be denied credit for the work done that semester.

Several exemptions and waivers are available to qualifying students. Brief descriptions of these are listed below. Waivers must be requested during the term the student is registered in. Such requests must be made prior to the 12th class day in long semesters and the 4th class day in summer sessions. Requests for retroactive refunds cannot be honored. Hazlewood Exemption - Certain Texas veterans and dependents of deceased Texas veterans of the Armed Forces of the United States are exempted from payment of tuition. Hazlewood State application and other documents are required. This exemption pays all tuition and fees except for the Student Service Fee and Property Deposit. The student must pay the Student Service Fee each term.
Dependent of Texas Veteran Killed or Missing in Action Exemption - Certain orphans of members of the Armed Forces, Texas Nat'l Guard and Texas Air Nat'l Guard are exempted from payment of tuition. Documentation is required. This exemption pays all tuition and fees.
Good Neighbor Exemption - Certain students from other nations of the American hemisphere are exempted from payment of tuition. The Good Neighbor Exemption is administered by the Financial Aid Department. This exempts the student from paying tuition.
Deaf Blind Waiver - Deaf or blind Texas residents are exempted from payment of tuition. The Deaf Blind Waiver official letter is required. This exemption pays all tuition and fees.
Disabled State Employee Police/Fire Exemption - Certain disabled peace officers are exempted from payment of tuition and fees. The Disabled State Employee Police/Fire Exemption official letter is required. This exemption pays all tuition and fees.
Dependent of Disabled State Employee Exemption - Children of disabled or deceased firemen, volunteer law enforcement officers, peace officers, employees of the Texas Department of Corrections and game wardens are exempted from the payment of tuition. The Dependent of Disabled State Employee Exemption official letter is required. This exemption pays all tuition and fees.
POW-MIA Dependent Exemption - Children of U.S. prisoners of war or persons missing in action are granted exemption of tuition. Documentation is required. This exemption pays all tuition and fees.
Academic Common Market Waiver - Resident rather than non-resident tuition is applied to out-of-state students enrolled through the Academic Common Market Program. Additional information and a list of Southern States participating in the program can be found here. This waiver waives out of state tuition. The student pays in-state tuition rates.
Military Waiver - Resident rather than non-resident tuition is applied to U.S. military personnel, their spouses and dependents if they meet designated criteria. The certificate must be approved and submitted by the Registrar prior to registration. This waiver waives out of state tuition. The student pays in-state tuition rates.
Employment and Employee Dependent Waiver - Resident rather than non-resident tuition is applied to teachers and professors of Texas state institutions of higher education, their spouses and children. Requires official application approved by hiring department. This waiver waives out of state tuition. The student pays in-state tuition rates.
Employment Waiver - Resident rather than non-resident tuition is applied to a teaching or research assistant provided the student is employed at least one-half time by UNT in a position that relates to the degree sought. Requires official application approved by hiring department. This waiver waives out of state tuition. The student pays in-state tuition rates.
Competitive Scholarship Waiver - (Administered by Financial Aid). Resident rather than non-resident tuition is applied to a non-resident holding a UNT competitive scholarship of at least $1,000.00 for the academic year or summer for which the student is enrolled. Requires official approval from the department awarding the scholarship. This waiver waives out of state tuition. The student pays in-state tuition rates.
Off Campus Exemption - Certain university fees are exempted for students enrolled only in courses designated as off-campus or internships. Students enrolled in all classes that are held off-campus automatically receive the off-campus exemption that exempts the Student Union Fee, Medical Service Fee, Transportation Fee, Student Recreational Center Fee and Property Deposit.
Valedictorian Waiver - Highest ranking graduates (valedictorians) of accredited Texas high schools are exempted from payment of tuition for the first two long semesters after graduation from high school. Student must pay mandatory fees and course fees. The official letter and UNT application required. This exempts the student from paying tuition.
Orphan Waiver - Certain Texas residents who are or have been in foster care or other residential care are exempted from the payment of tuition and mandatory fees. A copy of official letter is required. This exemption pays all tuition and fees.
AFDC/TANF Exemption - Certain Texas residents who have received financial assistance under Ch. 31 of the Human Resources Code (AFDC) qualify for a Resident tuition and fee exemption for 1 year. The official letter and UNT application are required. The application can be found at; http://essc.unt.edu/saucs/Forms/AFDC-TANF This exemption pays all tuition and fees.
Economic Development and Diversification Waiver - Resident rather than non-resident tuition is applied to individuals and dependents relocating to Texas as part of the program of state economic development and diversification. A list of companies participating in the Economic Diversification Program can be found here This waiver waives out of state tuition. The student pays in-state tuition rates.
Early High School Scholarship - Certain Early High School Graduates from Texas are exempt from the payment of tuition. Student must pay mandatory fees and course fees. The official letter and UNT application are required. The application can be found here. This exempts the student from paying tuition up to a designated dollar amount during their first semesters of enrollment.
Senior Citizen Exemption - Students 65 years of age or older are exempt from paying tuition and graduate tuition up to 6 credit hours each semester. Students must pay mandatory fees and course fees. The UNT application and a copy of driver’s license is required. This exempts the student from paying tuition up to 6 hours each semester.
Certified Educational Aide Exemption - Certain Educational Aides who are employed in the State of Texas may be exempted from payment of tuition and fees. Eligibility is forwarded from the Financial Aid Department. This exemption pays all tuition and mandatory fees. The student must pay the course fees.
Firefighter Exemption - Certain paid firefighters employed in the State of Texas may be exempted from payment of tuition and fees for PADM and EADP classes. Must have letter from department and fill out application.
Military Combat Exemption - Certain children or step children of a member of the U.S. Armed Forces who is deployed to active duty in a combat zone outside the United States may qualify for an exemption of tuition only. Deployment documentation must be provided to our office.
A student who drops a course or withdraws from the university within a certain time period may be entitled to a partial refund of tuition and fees. These refunds are calculated according to the category and time schedule listed below. Delinquent payment fees, late registration charges, publication fees and installment handling fees are non-refundable. Any financial obligation to UNT must be resolved before any refund is processed.
Withdrawal refunds are determined by the number of enrolled semester credit hours at the time of withdrawal. Withdrawal percentages are applied to the total amount of tuition and fees as prescribed by state law, NOT the amount paid. The withdrawal schedule and the percentage of refunds shown below pertain to total withdrawal from the semester and are mandated by the state legislature. The semester's first class day is always the first official university day of classes and not the first day of an individual's class. A withdrawal refund is based on the day of withdrawal, regardless of the date the class first meets

Refunds are made for any course dropped through the 12th class day for the fall or spring semester or a summer session of 10 weeks or longer, within the first four class days of a term or session of more than 5 weeks but less than 10 weeks, and within the first 2 class days of a session 5 weeks or shorter. The semester's first class day is always the first official university day of classes and not the first day of an individual's class. To calculate the refund for a class dropped, take the fee paid for the original hours and subtract the fee shown in this Tuition and Fee Register for the new number of hours. The difference between the two is the amount credited to the student account.
