The UNT System Board of Regents approved the nomination of V. Lane Rawlins Nov. 12, beginning the 21-day period required by Texas law before they can officially appoint him to the presidency. Rawlins has been serving a one-year appointment as UNT president.
The UNT System Board of Regents today appointed V. Lane Rawlins to serve as UNT's president for the 2010-11 academic year.
Rawlins' appointment will take effect on May 14, 2010, and he is expected to serve as president through the summer of 2011 during the System's national search for a new president for its flagship university.
Vittrup will hold a one-year term and is charged with representing the interests of students as well as the interests of the State of Texas and the university system.
As the chief compliance officer for UNT and the UNT System, he will be responsible for creating and implementing a university and system compliance program.
On Tuesday, Jan. 16 (the first day of classes for the 2007 spring semester), the University of North Texas System will launch a new chapter in the history of higher education in the city of Dallas.
When University of North Texas at Dallas emerges as the first full-fledged, public university inside the Dallas city limits in the next few years, it will already have its own individual colors, its own mascot, its own word marks and a permanent campus in southern Dallas.
