Mission

To improve the health and quality of life for the people of Texas and beyond through excellence in the successful translation of basic science concepts into clinical practice (“from bench to bedside”) by providing efficient, effective multidisciplinary Clinical Trial support to the investigators, faculty, staff, students, and patients of the University of North Texas Health Science Center.

Vision

To contribute to UNTHSC’s goal of becoming a top 10 health science center by fostering the premier regional program of Clinical Trials sponsored by the pharmaceutical and medical device industry. The Office of Clinical Trials will provide innovative opportunities for UNTHSC’s investigators, faculty, staff, students and patients to contribute to clinical research and, thereby, to clinical care, education, and community engagement.

About Us

Reporting to the Vice President for Research, the Office of Clinical Trials (OCT) is an administrative staff department that oversees activities related to the conduct of industry sponsored clinical drug and device trials, including contract negotiations, implementation of standardized pricing schedules and master sponsor contracts as is feasible, and budget planning and control. The OCT cultivates relations with the pharmaceutical and medical device industry to further clinical trial development at UNTHSC. In collaboration with the Office for the Protection of Human Subjects, OCT identifies revised and new government regulations or guidance regarding conduct of clinical trials (known as, Good Clinical Practice or GCP) and presents such information to OCT staff, clinical department coordinators, institution officials, and Principal Investigators (PIs) and sub-investigators. In addition, OCT identifies areas of risk and of potential non-compliance; works with staff, clinical department coordinators, and PIs to develop and implement action plans to address the identified areas; and oversees the development of educational and training programs to implement GCP.

The Office of Clinical Trials of the University of North Texas Health Science Center is committed to proving the safety and effectiveness of new treatments for today's diseases and disorders. Along with many other sites across Texas and the United States, our office is currently conducting 35-40 clinical studies each year for some of the nation's leading pharmaceutical and medical device companies. It is our hope that you will see the benefit of being part of a clinical study and that you will realize how your participation has the potential to benefit the lives of millions of other people dealing with your same medical condition.
