Visual Art and Design Scholarships

Art students are eligible for scholarships awarded by the College of Visual Arts and Design as well as scholarships awarded by the University and the Honors College. (Financial aid information.)

In 2009-10, there were 61 Visual Art and Design Scholarships awarded for a total of over $54,250.

Scholarships are traditionally offered in every major area of the college. We have scholarships that have been traditionally offered for many years, as well as new scholarships coming on board each year.

Applicants for all visual art and design scholarships must be enrolled as full-time art majors at UNT and must meet individual scholarship requirements. While College of Visual Arts and Design Scholarships are generally only available to continuing students, outstanding continuing and transfer students and exceptional entering freshmen and first year graduate students may apply for a variety of competitive academic scholarships that are awarded by the school and university. While standards vary somewhat, most CVAD scholarships require:

  • Completion of at least 30 semester hours of college level work
  • Completion of 24 semester hours at UNT with a 3.0 cumulative GPA

Scholarship application packets are disseminated in the Fall each year and students turn the packets back into Student Services the following Spring semester - traditionally sometime in February. The Scholarship awards are made each year at the annual Voertman Student Exhibition held in the spring. Many donors are able to attend and meet their scholarship recipient. Awards made are for the following academic year.

Information regarding the requirements for individual scholarships is available through the CVAD, Student Services Office, Art Building room 111, 940-565-2216. Students should check the Student Services webpage towards the end of the fall semester for the updated scholarship packet, which contains information and requirements for all the visual art and design scholarships offered and the deadline for turning in all information.
