In 1890, the University of North Texas was founded as a school to train teachers. One hundred and twenty years later, UNT is a student-centered emerging research university, offering a breadth of disciplines from engineering to visual arts in 12 schools and colleges.

All the while, UNT continues to excel in the two-fold mission of educating and graduating students, earning its third Texas Higher Education Star Award in 2009 for closing the gaps in education.
