Dallas Arts District Tour with Susan Cheal

Departs Denton at 8:30 AM from Denton Emily Fowler Library parking lot, 502 Oakland St. Returns to Denton at approximately 5:00 PM.
 
Recognized by Sunset Magazine as "The South's Best Arts District," we will tour the Dallas Museum of Art, the Nasher Sculpture Center, and the Rachofsky House.
 

 
The Rachofsky House is accessible to groups only. If you've always wanted to see what's inside the ultramodern white house, now's your chance. Designed as a private residence by architect Richard Meier, the 10,000 square foot house features selected works from the Rachofsky's collection of contemporary art.
 
From there we will head to the Nasher Sculpture Center Cafe for lunch before touring the center. Lunch is on your own. The Nasher Sculpture Center is home to modern and contemporary sculpture and 20th Century paintings and drawings.
 
After our Nasher tour, we will walk across the street to the Dallas Museum of Art for a tour before heading back to Denton.
 
Cost: $60 per person includes chartered bus transportation to and from Dallas, entrance fees to all museums, guided tours of museums and lectures by Susan Cheal. The price does not include lunch.
 
This tour is limited to 20 people. Please note that if a minimum number of people do not sign up, the tour will be cancelled. Due to scheduling, we must all travel together in the chartered bus. Driving your own car is not an option for this tour.

Denton Tour and Tea Day

Take a break from your holiday plans and join us for a private tour of the Bayless-Selby House, decorated for the holidays. Learn what life was like for a middle-class family in Denton during the Victorian period. We will then stop in an antique store or two on the square and learn about European antiques.
 
Lunch and tea will be served at The Chestnut Tree. Stephanie will present a lecture on tea covering the origins and history of tea, the process of making tea, information on afternoon tea traditions and how to brew the perfect cup. You'll leave with a copy of the holiday issue of Tea in Texas.
 
Our day will end with a docent-led tour of the Denton Courthouse Museum. The museum has several wonderful exhibits, including maps, folk art, pressed glass, quilts, pottery, thimbles, cattle irons, cattle brands, and other artifacts from Denton County.
 
Cost: $35 per person
Wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather. We will meet at the Bayless-Selby House, 317 West Mulberry, and walk to the square from there.

Chile - Travel to South America's Extreme Southern Core

This extraordinary adventure takes you inside the Subantarctic Biocultural Conservation Program and throughout South America's extreme southern core. Guided by scientists and students from UNT and the Universidad de Magallenes (UMAG) we will visit the Omara Park, one of the world's remaining wilderness areas. Cruise through the Strait of Magellan and the Beagle Channel. The enthusiasm and insight of UNT scientists through lectures and conversations aboard the cruise ship will enhance the educational value of this trip.

New York - Theatre Trip

April 14-17, 2011

Experience the excitement of the Big Apple with actor, director and playwright Julie Brinker. Julie Brinker holds an MFA in Theatre from Arizona State University and has taught at Illinois State University, the University of New Hampshire, where she led annual theatre tours to London. She is currently the Outreach Director at Denton Community Theatre and teaches as an adjunct for North Central Texas College and Collin College, and she has taught for the UNT Emeritus College.
