UNT raising funds for Haiti with UNT Big Give initiative

DENTON (UNT), Texas – The Student Government Association at the University of North Texas is coordinating a campus-wide initiative called the UNT Big Give aimed at raising funds for Haiti relief.

The effort launched on Feb. 6 with the College of Music presenting a Haiti relief concert featuring the Symphony Orchestra and the A Cappella Choir. The initiative will continue until March 21 (Sunday). Dakota Carter, president of the Student Government Association, says that the program's goal is to raise $40,000 for Haiti.

Carter pointed out that the UNT population of students, faculty and staff is more than 40,000. "If each of us donates $1, then we can reach our goal," said Carter. "All it will take is for everyone to sacrifice a cup of coffee or a candy bar, just once, for the UNT community to make a difference in Haiti."

The funds raised through the UNT Big Give will be divided among the American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity and Doctors without Borders.
