Greater Los Angeles Cohort

In partnership with California State University Northridge Libraries, the Department of Library and Information Sciences will begin a second Greater Los Angeles Area Cohort in the Fall of 2011. The Department is committed to the cohort approach because of the structure and community that it provides.

This program will feature a strong emphasis on the challenges and opportunities that are distinctive to the management of libraries and library collections and services in a diverse urban context. Guest presenters and field experiences at L.A. public, university, corporate, and private libraries in different communities will help participants link their academic course work to the realities of library practice in this region.

Onsite instruction includes two four-day web institutes (August 26-29, 2011 and January 6-9, 2012) held at the California State University Northridge. Other courses will include onsite instruction at CSUN.

The cohort is limited to 40 students who must begin together in the Fall of 2011. Because of the requirements for onsite instruction, this program is available to persons in the Greater Los Angeles Area only.

The University of North Texas Department of Library and Information Sciences has a long history of providing high-quality programs at sites that are often many miles from the home campus in Denton. In receiving its current accreditation renewal by the American Library Association, the Committee on Accreditation commended the School for its outreach efforts.

Applications for the second Greater Los Angeles Cohort are now being accepted and will be accepted until the cohort is filled.

Requests for information about the program and applications can be obtained through the website.
