The Alumni Society Board is chosen from within the organization by their peers. You must be a current Alumni Society member to nominate an officer. The Alumni Society board assists with the oversight of the Alumni Society and serves two year terM.S..
The Board reflects the professional and geographic diversity of the College‘s alumni. Board meetings are held twice a year. Board members serve on membership, alumni awards, bylaws, and nomination committees.
The 2008-2010 Board is composed of the following Alumni Society members:
Connie Moss is the coordinator of the North East Texas Library System (NETLS), headquartered at the Nicholson Memorial Library System in Garland, where she oversees training, consulting, and technology services to libraries in a 33 county area. Before coming to NETLS in May 2008, she was assistant director of the William T. Cozby Public Library in Coppell, TX. She also has served in the Carrollton (TX) Public Library and the Dallas Public Library. Connie was born and reared in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. She and her husband were able to enjoy travel in Europe during his Air Force career. Her hobbies are travel, reading, and visiting with friends and family.
Kathy Huber, Board chair, is Genealogy Librarian at Tulsa (OK) City County Library. In her spare time she serves as a docent at Philbrook Museum of Art and Oxley Nature Center, both in Tulsa. She has published articles on research tools and historical topics in several publications, including United Daughters of the Confederacy Magazine, the Tulsa Annals, and National Genealogical Society Research in the States Series. She is active in both the Oklahoma Library Association and Texas Library Association. Katy‘s bachelor‘s degree also is from UNT.
Robbie Sittel is the Government Information Librarian at the Tulsa City-County Library. She has been an active member of the Oklahoma Library Association's Government Documents Round Table and works closely with the Oklahoma Department of Libraries Government Information Division in hopes of creating a healthy relationship with government information for all.
Tobye Rae Nelson was born in Great Falls, Montana and grew up in Montana, Canada & Alaska until family brought her to Texas where she graduated from Alvin High School. She holds undergraduate degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science. She graduated from UNT with a M.S. in Computer Education & Cognitive Systems in 1996 and will complete her Ph.D. in Educational Computing/Higher Education (both from Learning Technologies) in December 2009. She has presented at eight international conferences, 14 national conferences, and over 25 state or local conferences. She is currently over the Center for Student Development at Discovery Park. Her former position at UNT allowed her to travel the U.S. recruiting students for UNT‘s many graduate programs. She is also the president of the Graduate Student Council, a position she has held for five years. She is a National Fellow of Alpha Epsilon Lambda as well as the president of UNT‘s Epsilon charter of AEL (the only national honor society for graduate students). Tobye lives in Denton with her spouse of 23 years and hopes to stay in the DFW area upon graduation. She is thrilled and honored to be selected as a member of the Alumni Board.
Credence Baker serves as the manager of online instructional support for Tarleton State University, where she plays a significant role in developing and supporting online and hybrid courses/programs. The university currently offers 6 online Masters programs, over 450 hybrid courses, and over 160 online courses. Credence holds a Ph.D. from the University of North Texas in Applied Technology & Performance Improvement with a minor in Management.
Becky Coleman has served as head of Youth Services at Boulder City Public Library District for the last five years. She is an active member of the Nevada Library Association‘s Southern District Committee, creating library staff educational opportunites through seminars and workshops. Becky was awarded a Master of Library and Information Science degree from the University of North Texas in 2004, with certification in Youth Services, and is looking forward to persuing a Ph.D.
Mike has worked for the Minneapolis Public Library (now Hennepin County Library) since 1988. He became a librarian in 2001 just after graduating from UNT-LIS with the first Minnesota cohort. Mike works on the Fiction, Art & Music, Literature, and HIstory & Social Sciences reference desks in the 3 year old Central Library in Minneapolis.
Joan Goodbody is a Business Methods Patent Examiner for ASRC at the USPTO in Alexandria, VA. The job consists of giving instruction and instructional development to help patent examiners and other employees at the USPTO search more effectively. Her previous work experience includes Government Documents Librarian at Michigan Technological University and reference specialist at Texas A&M. Prior to this she worked in the tourism/museum industry as an interpreter and researcher. Joan also has extensive research and marketing experience in the equine industry. Joan has a B.S. in Agriculture from the University of Delaware, a Masters of Historical Administration from Eastern Illinois, and a Masters in Library Science from North Texas University (2001).
Carolyn Bogardus, who was a member of the Rio Grande Valley Initiative grant, is library director for the City of Port Isabel, TX. She and her husband Barry, originally from Long Island, New York, have been residents of Texas for six years. Prior to moving to Texas, her professional careers included 13 years in the restaurant business, seven years in the defense subcontractor industry, and six years in the banking industry. Her undergraduate degree is in business management and communications from Adelphia University, Garden City, NY.
Terry Clower, Associate Director of the Center for Economic Development and Research at UNT that provides economic and public policy consulting services to clients in the private, non-profit, and public sectors. Prior to joining UNT in January 1992, Dr. Clower was employed in private industry in logistics and site locations management positions. In addition to his work with the Center, he has performed consulting services to municipalities and companies in the electronics, telecommunications, and publishing industries. In addition to the B.S. in Marine Transportation from Texas A&M University, he holds an M.S. in Applied Economics from UNT.
Susan Elliott has been Technical Services Director at Odessa (TX) College Learning Resources Center since 2000, where she earlier served as Director of Public Services and as a paraprofessional. She is an active member of the Texas Community College Teachers Association and in the Texas Library Association (TLA); in 2004-05, she was TLA District 9 co-chair. Her B.A. degree is from Kansas Wesleyan University.
Corinne Hill, Associate Director for Technical Services of the Dallas Public Library, regularly presents programs on library services, collection development, and new technologies. She was formerly Technical Services Manager at Denton Public Library. In 2004, she was named a Mover and Shaker by Library Journal, and in 2005, was a delegate leader for Texas librarians participating in the People-to-People Ambassador Program to Russia. As an active member of the Texas Library Association (TLA), she has served twice as Conference Program Committee co-chair as well as in other responsible positions. She is the past-chair of the ALA Reference and User Services Association, Collection Development and Evaluation Section and recently served as a member of an External Review Panel for the Committee on Accreditation.
Leslyn McNabb serves as Team Lead for Library Systems and Systems Librarians at the Center for Disease Control & Prevention Public Health Library and Information Center (CDC), Atlanta, GA. She has management and oversight responsibilities for all CDC library systems and system librarians. Prior to coming to CDC, she was an intern/librarian at Cable News Network (CNN) Library, in Atlanta. In addition to the M.S., she holds a Bachelor of Industrial Engineering degree from Georgia Institute of Technology.
Martha Rossi, is an Educational Specialist for Library Services at Education Service Center, Region 20, where she supports the development and delivery of training and cooperative purchasing programs for librarians and schools. The Center, located in San Antonio, serves 51 school districts and ca. 300,000 students in 15 counties. She also consults and collaborates on the implementation of the Texas initiative to provide and integrate state-funded online resources to K-12 schools in partnership with the Texas State Library and Archives Commission and the Texas Education Agency. Marty reports that she is energized by working with technology applications and system design. Following her parents around while growing up in Mexico and Brazil and joining Drs. Carol Simpson and Barbara Schultz-Jones in Thailand has kept her mindful of the needs for sensitivity land broad thinking.University of North Texas
