LAWRENCE, Kan. - Despite 14 points from Tristan Thompson, the paint play of Kansas' Morris twins proved too tough for the North Texas basketball team in a 93-60 loss to the No. 6/7 Jayhawks on Friday night.

NT trailed by just seven points at the half, but a 23-6 run out of the break put the game out of reach for the Mean Green (2-1), who knocked off Texas Tech at home on Tuesday. The Jayhawks (3-0) showed why they are among the nation's elite in front of 16,300 fans at Allen Fieldhouse, posting their school-record clinching 62nd straight home win.

Marcus Morris was the catalyst of the big KU run, pouring in 16 of his 20 points in the second half. His brother Markieff led all scorers at the half with 10 of his eventual 13 points.

While KU recorded its longest home winning streak, one of the nation's longest 3-point streaks came to an end for NT. North Texas failed to hit a 3-pointer for the first time in 635 games. NT's 0-12 performance from deep ended the streak dated back to the 1987-88 season.

Thompson was 6-of-15 for the floor in scoring his team-high 14 points. Kansas City native Dominique Johnson scored 11, while Josh White added 10.

Kansas fired out of the gate with an 8-2 run thanks to a trio of buckets from 6-foot-10 Markieff Morris, who extended the KU lead to 11-4 moments later on a deep 3-pointer.

Led by the big man, the Jayhawks made eight of their first 10 shots on the night, while NT connected on just three of 10. George Odufuwa was the only Mean Green player who had luck early as he piled up a quick six points in the game's first nine minutes.

Kedrick Hogans ignited the Mean Green with a raucous dunk after a nifty centering pass from Odufuwa. That dunk awoke the NT offense which posted a 13-6 run over a six minute span late in the half that cut the lead to 30-23.

The NT defense came to play as well, drawing three charging calls in the first half's final 10 minutes, capped off by Dominique Johnson's perimeter defense.

Johnson hit a 15-foot jumper with a second remaining in the first half to send NT into the break down, 36-27.

North Texas returns to action on Tuesday at the Super Pit when the Rice Owls make their first ever trip to Denton. Tip time is slated for 7 p.m. and can be seen locally in DFW on TXA-21.
