Sid W. Richardson Foundation

Funding for the TIHH was obtained from a grant from the
Sid W. Richardson Foundation to Invest in a New Program
That Enriches the Lives of Latino Families in North Texas
and Improves the Skills of the Public Health Professionals
Who Serve Them.

Innovative Programs

Thanks in part to the confidence and generosity of the Sid W. Richardson Foundation, the UNT Health Science
Center has been able to provide expertise and innovative programs that have helped Fort Worth, Texas, America
and several foreign countries meet the public health and disease prevention needs of diverse populations.

The time is right to take the next step - a strategic, practical, results-oriented response to a recent legislative
mandate.

When our governor, lieutenant governor and speaker of the house each appointed three experts to the new
Texas Health Disparities Task Force in December of 2001, they launched an ambitious effort to finally eliminate
inequities in health care for the multicultural and disadvantaged communities of Texas.

The School of Public Health here at the UNT Health Science Center in Fort Worth is prepared to immediately take
on a leadership role. But not just because our Dean is one of the nine experts chosen to lead the statewide
initiative.

Why then? Because the leaders of the UNT Health Science Center and our School of Public Health have already
crafted the infrastructure for a unique, service-oriented institute with the specific mission to help close the many
gaps in health care suffered by America's largest minority group and Texas' fastest-growing population, Hispanics.
