Introduction

The department offers a major in applied behavior analysis and a minor in behavior analysis for students interested in learning to apply behavioral principles to produce positive change in individual behavior and social systems.

The department promotes a humanistic application of behavioral principles through consultation with area agencies and institutions. The department offers students experience in laboratory and applied research and practical experience in the application of behavior technology.

Programs of Study

The department offers degree programs in the following areas:

Bachelor of Science with a major in applied behavior analysis, and
Master of Science with a major in behavior analysis.

Bachelor of Science

The Bachelor of Science degree is designed to prepare students for applied behavior analysis work in human services settings.

Degree Requirements

Candidates for the Bachelor of Science with a major in applied behavior analysis must meet the following requirements.

1. Hours Required and General School Requirements: A minimum of 124 semester hours, of which 42 must be advanced, and fulfillment of degree requirements for the Bachelor of Science degree as specified in the “General University Requirements” in the Academics section of this catalog and the College of Public Affairs and Community Service requirements.

2. Major Requirements: Major of 34 semester hours, including BEHV 2300, 2700, 3440, 3550, 3660, 3770, 4010, 4310, 4400 and 4750.

3. Minor (optional): A minor of 18 hours is optional. Minors considered likely to give graduates of the program a competitive edge include, but are not limited to, aging, anthropology, biological sciences, business foundations, chemistry, computer science, criminal justice, emergency administration, health promotion, library and information sciences, rehabilitation, social work and sociology.

4. Other Course Requirements: None.

5. Electives: Sufficient electives to satisfy the advanced hour requirement and/or the minimum total hours (124) for the degree.

6. Other Requirements: Minimum GPA of 2.7 in behavior analysis courses; at least 31 hours must be completed at UNT.

BS with a Major in Applied Behavior Analysis

Following is one suggested four-Year degree plan. Students are encouraged to see their adviser each semester for help with program decisions and enrollment. Students are responsible for meeting all course prerequisites.

Actual degree plans may vary depending on availability of courses in a given semester. Some courses may require prerequisites not listed in the above plan.

Minor

Undergraduate students majoring in a compatible field (e.g., rehabilitation, sociology, psychology, health promotion, hospitality management, merchandising, management or other service professions) may pursue a minor in behavior analysis. All minors should take BEHV 2300, 2700 and 3440 as prerequisites for other courses. Any other undergraduate courses in behavior analysis may be taken to complete the minor of 18 hours. Six hours of the minor must be advanced.
