ACS Short Courses | Computer Based Training | GroupWise Training | Human Resources Courses | Center for Distributed Learning | UNT Mini-courses | Central Web Support Tutorials | Legacy Documents

A variety of training opportunities are available to students, faculty, and staff members at UNT. The links above will take you to the various Websites associated with computer training at UNT. Descriptions of these areas and types of training available follow:

  • Academic Computing Services (ACS) offers short courses -- available to students, faculty, and staff -- every semester. It is requested that you pre-register to attend. Announcements on course availability etc. are published monthly in Benchmarks Online, the Computing Center Online Newsletter. Typical courses cover the following topics:

    SPSS SAS
    S-Plus EViews
    Stata LaTeX
New Technologies for Survey Research Fireworks MX
    FrontPage Dreamweaver MX

Faculty members can also request customized short courses on topics geared to their class needs. These courses would typically be on the topics listed above or those that are in the skill set of ACS staff members. Contact ACS for more information (ISB 119, 940-565-4068, lynch@unt.edu).

  • Computer Based Training (CBT) --Check Out the CBT Website for all Your Online Training Needs.
  • GroupWise is the Electronic Mail system the University of North Texas uses for the purpose of communicating with faculty and staff members. Training on this system is offered by the Computing Center's Campus-Wide Networks Division.
  • Human Resources Courses are offered to staff and faculty members on a variety of topics. Some courses are fee-based.
  • UNT Central Web Support has a page devoted to topics of concern to people involved in Web publishing.
  • The Center for Distributed Learning offers courses especially for Faculty Members. Topics include Web Course Creation and Management and Videoconferencing.

The center offers a "Brown Bag" series which meets for lunch the first Thursday of each month at Noon in Chilton 245. The purpose of this group is to bring faculty members together to share their experiences with distributed learning. One demonstration will be made at each meeting by a faculty member with experience in distributed learning.

  • Many of the General Access Labs around campus have tutorials installed on their computers.

  • The Library has a Computer Training Resources webpage with lots of resources listed.

  • UNT Mini-Courses are fee-based and offered to UNT faculty, staff, students and the community at large.  For additional information see their Website or call (940) 565-3482.
  • The UNT Calendar has all sorts of events listed throughout the semester, including training.
  • Legacy Documents are still available from this site. They are mainly on older Microsoft products, but not entirely. You can use the Internet to search for answers to Microsoft Office problems. Places like ZDnet can be helpful in this regard.
  • A lot of training information is also available via the Internet. You can search for more training information by using one of the many search facilities available on the World Wide Web such as Google , Dogpile and Alltheweb. If you use Netscape you can click on the Net Search button and choose from the search facilities offered there. It is a good idea to do a search using more than one facility because they don't all work the same way. Using various search facilities maximizes your chances of finding all the available information on your topic of interest.
