About The Institute

As part of its strategic plan related to its rapid phase of growth and development, the University of North Texas Health Science Center established a cancer research institute in 1996. The Institute for Cancer Research (ICR) is led by Jamboor K. Vishwanatha, Ph.D., Associate Dean of the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, as the Director.

The ICR is a UNTHSC based consortium as the focal point for academic leadership in all aspects of cancer research and education within the UNTHSC and for the surrounding areas of Fort Worth and Tarrant County. Fort Worth. The ICR was initiated to serve as a multi-disciplinary institute with programs in basic cancer research, translational cancer research, clinical investigations, prevention and control, early diagnosis and treatment and behavioral oncology research.

The ICR membership is composed of basic science, clinical and public health faculty from the UNTHSC, Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, Texas Christian University (TCU) in Fort Worth, UNT-Denton, the University of Texas at Arlington, including the Automation and Robotics Research Institute in Fort Worth (both in Tarrant county) and Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth. Additional Associate Members represent UNTHSC post-doctoral fellows, graduate students and staff with interests in Cancer.
