WFAA Sports Director Dale Hansen and UNT announce new scholarship program for UNT students

DENTON (UNTS), Texas -- The University of North Texas is partnering with The Hansen Foundation to provide scholarships to deserving students who want to attend UNT. WFAA Sports Director Dale Hansen made the announcement June 24 (Saturday) at an event at his ranch in Waxahachie. UNT System Chancellor Lee Jackson and Regents Dr. Charles Mitchell and Brittany Adams attended and committed to work with The Hansen Foundation on this program.

The Foundation plans to raise at least $100,000.00 for student scholarships in its first year. All the proceeds raised will provide scholarship opportunities for deserving young men and women to continue their education at UNT.

The proceeds of a gala and golf tournament, planned for the first Tuesday in October, will go to The Hansen Foundation to benefit student scholarships at UNT. Past entertainers at the gala include Dennis Miller, The Oak Ridge Boys, and Bill Engvahl from the Blue Collar Comedy Tour.

Hansen is very passionate about helping young people. "We want to make it a better world, one kid at a time," he said.

"UNT has over 32,000 students," said Chancellor Jackson, "but financial aid is more important than ever before to a large number of our students. Some students simply can't afford a college education and need-based aid is in short supply. Dale Hansen's passion for education is going to make all the difference in the world to the lives and careers of several new students each year. UNT is very grateful for his generous commitment to help deserving college students in this state."

The foundation and the university expect to hand out the first scholarships next fall ('07) and Hansen emphasizes that plans go beyond providing money for an education. "Our goal is stay with each scholarship recipient through their college years to help them be truly successful at the University of North Texas," he said.

The Hansen Foundation and UNT are excited to be able to provide an opportunity for bright students to see their dreams of an education fulfilled.
